“I am a young global leader and an ardent advocate of sustainable community development. I was awarded the Abraham Magid Educational (AME) Scholarship in 2023 to support my community work and pursue higher education in Geography and Sustainable Development (MSc.) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi-Ghana. The MSc. program focused on understanding the complex relationship between humans and the environment by focusing on real world sustainable practices hindering community development.”

“The AME scholarship helped me to successfully navigate the rigorous academic demands of the program by covering the tuition, online teaching support services, other academic user fees, facility user fees, data bundle for online classes and field research towards my MSc. Dissertation. The program offered me the opportunity to explore these courses in depth: Environmental Management, Geographic Thought, Climate Change, Sustainable Development, and Disaster Management. In my efforts to harness the benefits presented by higher education into solving real-world challenges, I embarked on two separate initiatives: one aimed at meeting the higher education requirement and the other dedicated to fostering community growth and development.”

“Firstly, in fulfilling the academic requirement, I researched the impact of Land Use Land Cover Change (LULCC) on rainfed agriculture in Ejura-Sekyedumase municipality, Ashanti region, Ghana. The research identified a significant decline in agricultural productive lands, forest covers, water catchments, and an increase in barelands with urbanization/settlement. I identified the need to ensure the integration of nature-based solutions in the face of changing diverse land use types which affect livelihood and nature.”

“Secondly, I led the establishment of a social-venture called EnvironSafe Limited as part of effectively translating the academic work into supporting sustainable agriculture and nature. The socio-venture focused on helping smallholder farmers to leverage mobile technology in identifying soil types/nutrients and diseases affecting cocoa and other major cereals in Ghana. The initiative also promotes technology inclusion at the lowest scale while fostering job creation among youths.”

”Completing the 2023 AME Scholarship successfully marks a significant career advancement in my life. I would not have acquired such extensive and in-depth knowledge and skills without the amazing support of the AME scholarship. The AME Scholarship has not only redefined my future but has also paved the way for a brighter and more sustainable future for my community, country, Africa and the world at large.”
